Geology Summer Scholars Program 2020

Have you ever wondered why Louisiana looks like it does? Or why Louisiana has an abundance of natural resources?
Come and join us as we discover Louisiana’s geologic past!
​
The UL Geaux Geo Scholar Program is a 5-day experience for top students throughout the 9-parish Acadiana region in southern Louisiana. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply for the competitive 2020 Geaux Geo program.

Through hands-on data analysis and field trip excursions, we will explore:

the basics of the petroleum system
-
how to take and interpret seismic data
-
how paleontology can tell us about ancient Louisiana, and
-
today’s geologic features and how they relate to Earth’s history.
Program Details:
Who: Acadiana region high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in geology
What: a one-week introduction to Louisiana geology and the petroleum industry
When: July 13-17, 2020
Where: Hamilton Hall, UL Lafayette campus
How Much: There is no cost to the participants. The program is completely funded by a Halliburton grant. Lunches and field trip transportation is included.
