Welcome!

Have you ever wondered why Louisiana looks like it does? Or why Louisiana has an abundance of natural resources?

Come and join us as we discover Louisiana’s geologic past!

The UL Geaux Geo Scholar Program is a 5-day experience for top students throughout the 9-parish Acadiana region in southern Louisiana.  High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply for the competitive 2020 Geaux Geo program.

Through hands-on data analysis and field trip excursions, we will explore:

  • the basics of the petroleum system

  • how to take and interpret seismic data

  • how paleontology can tell us about ancient Louisiana, and

  • today’s geologic features and how they relate to Earth’s history.
